The Governor’s Academy is the oldest continuously operating boarding school in America. Founded by bequest of Governor William Dummer in 1763, the Academy opened its doors more than a decade before our nation was born. The Academy sits on a beautiful 450-acre campus, once part of a working farm with crops of rye, fruit trees, and grazing sheep.
More than 400 students from 23 states and 18 countries create a vibrant, fascinating global community at The Governor’s. The athletics facilities rival those at many small colleges and universities. Venues include Whiston-Bragdon Hockey Arena, Pescosolido Field House, Alumni Gymnasium, Sager Bowl, Morse Field, Alfond Class of '67 Field (artificial turf), Navins Field, Whipple Field, Robert E. Anderson Lower Fields, Huggins Track, Barbara F. Porter Field, Alfond Fitness Center, and tennis courts utilized by more than 50 interscholastic teams from varsity to thirds. Governor's holds a strong record in the Independent School League (ISL), arguably one of the most competitive prep leagues in the nation.
